  • Joy A. Johnson, Licensed Manicurist, Esthetician Founder of Joy of Beauty ® & Nails & Faces of Joy

Joy A. Johnson is the Small Business Administration’s 2023 Maryland Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year. A multi-licensed beauty professional, former adjunct professor, international beauty educator, and author, she is the sole proprietor of Nails & Faces of Joy, LLC, the parent company of Joy of Beauty®.

Joy’s inspiration stems from her mother, the late Joyce Norris—a former fashion model and flight attendant—who was diagnosed with cancer when Joy was just 14 years old. Joyce instilled in her an enduring appreciation for healthy living, emphasizing that what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. Though her mother passed just two years after her diagnosis, these life lessons have guided Joy throughout her career and are at the heart of her brand’s mission.

Since entering the beauty industry in 2007, Joy has specialized as a Licensed Nail Technician focusing on Diabetic Pedicures and as a Licensed Esthetician. She has earned recognition as an international educator, lecturer, and accomplished presenter, having delivered talks across the European Union and the United States. Her expertise has also been showcased in editorial features in Real Simple, Ebony, and Good Housekeeping, and as the lead manicurist at New York Fashion Week.

In 2019, Joy launched the Joy of Beauty® brand—a holistic line of nail and body care products designed with diabetic and immunocompromised individuals in mind, yet suitable for everyone. All products are halal, vegan, cruelty-free, toxin-free, and manufactured in the USA, including Maryland. They contain no artificial dyes or fragrances, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to health-conscious innovation.

Joy is also the author of JOY, the KEY to Entrepreneurial Happiness, where she shares insights on transforming life’s challenges into tools for growth, reinvention, and success.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Joy is a podcaster, health advocate, and caregiver to her 94-year-old grandmother. As a multi-passionate entrepreneur and mother based in the Washington, D.C., metro area, she remains dedicated to delivering exceptional care and empowering others through her work.
